In the News…
Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey held a field hearing in opposition to his state’s pursuit of large offshore wind farms off its coast.
“We’re here because we all believe we have to protect our oceans,” Congressman Van Drew said. “It’s unbelievably disturbing to me that we have this great gift and we’re willing to squander it over a few people who have a lot of money.”
Representative Van Drew explained that the proposed turbines, the largest in the world, would be visible from the coastline.
Concerns about large offshore wind farms have increased after a 100-yard-long turbine blade from Vineyard Winds fell off last month, washing thousands of pieces of debris up on Nantucket, Massachusetts beaches.
